Dear Family,
Mission NewsThis was a relatively smooth week at the office. No big projects or stresses.
I did go to two district councils and gave little presentations. It is always great to be with the junior missionaries.
Our friend, David, is progressing. He is overcoming his drug and drinking problems and has done well the past couple of weeks. He is attending Church on his own. He has had some brief “discussions” with the missionaries. His road to baptism will be very long and hard because of all of the bad habits he has. I hope he makes it.
We talked briefly with Nancy. We will be reading the Book of Mormon with her once a week after her son starts school at the end of the month.
Some changes coming up. We are that we will putting more emphasis on bike safety. One of the senior missionaries will be assigned to be the Bike Guy. He will assure that the elders are using safe bikes. There will be greater emphasis safe riding.
President Caplin thinks the office elders spend too much time in the office and this is causing them to be less effective missionaries. This means the senior missionaries will be doing some of the work they are doing now.
We attended 3 baptisms this week. One young man decided he needed to get his life in order and the missionaries caught him at the right time. He is going to marine bootcamp on August 19. Lots of big changes. He was baptized by a young man who jointed the Church a year ago.
The second baptism was that of another young man he is slightly mentally handicapped. He feels loved and accepted by the members. The room was over flowing with members. Also his parents, 3 siblings and grandparents attended.
The third was a woman who was a marine for 14 years and is now working for the government. She sang a solo of Amazing Grace after her baptism. Elder and Sister Cook, a senior couple, have met with her once a week for over a year. They were so happy. The sister that was baptized, Denise, has attended church regularly for many months. She feels like she is already part of the ward family. There were a lot of members at her baptism.
Fun StuffThe seniors planned a social for Monday. We met at one of the church building for a sack lunch dinner. The exciting activity which was to go to Moo Thru. Moo Thru is an ice cream place out in the farm country that is owned and operated by dairy farmers. The ice cream is supposed to be wonderful. However after we finished dinner we called them and they were closed that night for an employee appreciation activity. So we went to Effee’s, a shake place. The shakes were OK.
The fun part of the evening is that we contacted Matchett Seely, a returned missionary that served in our ward and in Lance’s ward. He met us at Effee’s and we had a good visit. He is a farm boy.
I went on my regular Saturday morning walk. One dead tree stump was decorated more that anything I have seen on the trail before.
WES NewsWe will find out later is month whether we get the $1.9M bids we sent in.
I found a few business brokers that seem reasonable. A couple of them will work up an estimate of the value of WES for free. WE are not sure when the best time to sell the business is. But we are getting ready to put it on the market.
Family NewsAmanda’s Grandma Kenney passed away Saturday August 3 and her services were last Friday. I remember her as an energetic, opinionated woman who did many good things. I loved to listen to her many stories. Her treasure was her family. She lost her wonderful husband 20 or more years ago. She was anxious to be with him again.
Amanda grew up living a few blocks from her and she was Lance and Amanda’s next door neighbor for the last 13 years. She will be missed by Amanda, Lance and the girls.
McKay and Keri celebrated their 6th wedding anniversary this weekend. Grandma and Grandpa Perry took the kids Friday night.
Love you all,
Dad
