Elder Nelson - Selling WES and Transfer Week

Dear Family,

Mission NewsMy heavens this was a busy week. It was transfer week and we sent 13 missionaries home and received 27 new ones. Mom and I were talking about this and it seems that transfer day was (Tuesday) was three weeks ago. Part of the reason is that we had a number of late nights and early mornings. Working tired is harder.

Today we had our mission “family prayer” at 6:30am. All the missionaries pray for their friends at 6:30am. We then did a half hour of “come follow me” study. At 7:00 we went back to sleep until 9:30am. It felt very good to get a little extra sleep.

I initiated with the departing missionaries a 20 minute debriefing session where the missionaries talked about some of their missionary experiences. I was impressed by the faithful, heart-felt responses of all the missionaries.

We read another chapter of the Book of Mormon with Nancy on Friday. There was a good spirit. I don’t know if she is really progressing to baptism, but we all enjoy the visit.

Fun Stuff
On Saturday we went to a baptism where the sister missionaries who taught the young sister who was baptized, were the witnesses of the baptism.

We listened to 3 sessions of conference and I worked on WES stuff. I missed my walk. Chelsea called on her way home from Keri’s. I enjoyed the visit with her until I fell asleep at 11:55pm.

WES News
On top of transfer week we signed a sales agreement on Thursday to sell WES. We no longer own any assets and we no longer have employees. We still have a couple of dozen little tasks to close out the business and dissolve the corporation. As part of the sales agreement I will assist in the “safe” transfer WES customers to the Accurate Technology Manufacturing. That part I actually look forward to.

Family News
Kent and Lindsey are working on wedding stuff like announcements (that should go out this week – congratulations) and getting a wedding ring for Kent.

Kent is super busy at work.

Next Wednesday Keri and the girls are flying to Orlando to visit Derek’s family and McKay will fly out a day later to help with the broadcast of the BYU Football game. They will fly back on Tuesday. We wish Keri good luck with the girls on the long flights. I am sure they will have fun with their cousins.

This week Chelsea had her annual three day trek to Clear Creek with her 5th grade class. She said it went really well. The activities went smoothly and the children had fun and so did Chelsea.
Love you all,

Dad

Elder Nelson - Family Day and History Symposium

Dear Family, Mission News Monday Elder Larsen and I went to the Japanese restaurant where David works. We are still trying to get him to come to Church, but he did not make it today. He has a substance abuse problem that we would like to help him with. On Tuesday and Wednesday I went to Woodbridge and Annandale zone interviews. While the president was interviewing the elders, I was going over device audit procedures with the elders who were waiting. I learned/observed a couple of things: I need to come up with a plan to pull mission owned devices out of the field. The missionaries will use the devices they have purchased and brought into the field. There are a couple of issues with this. First it is not obvious how to store all of the data on the phone to an area safe place in the “cloud”. 90% of the data is stored on the area book which is a cloud software. The remaining 10% is not so easily saved so new missionaries coming into the area can have it. Second, on exchanges missi...

Elder Nelson - Little Miracle

Dear Family, Mission News One of our visa waiters needed to go to Atlanta to get his visa for Mexico. Our alarm went off at 3:55AM to get him to the Dulles Airport by 6:00AM. We picked him up from the airport and got him home by about 10:30 PM. It was a long day. We planned to take a nap, but we were too busy. The elder’s name is Giovani Garcia. His father was baptized in Guatemala, moved to Texas, married and had children. Normally getting a visa to Mexico is not hard, but Elder Garcia was here for two transfers. Of the 117 missions in the US he was assigned here. Of the 10 Spanish units we have in the mission, he was assigned to a ward whose membership includes the missionary that baptized his father in Guatemala. This brother was somewhat less active and Elder Garcia has helped him become active again. The Lord works in mysterious ways his wonders to perform. We got up this morning at 4:53AM to take him to the airport to fly to Mexico City. The mail is heavy and we in the of...

Sister Nelson - 7/28/2019

Dear Family, Here it is another week and almost another month gone by. It has been a good week. Monday we wanted to get the car back in to get the A/C checked. When we had it in on Saturday it didn’t misbehave and it is hard to fix something that doesn’t appear to be broken. After riding in a car without air conditioning for over an hour in 100+ weather on Sunday, Dad was pretty motivated to get it fixed. We drove to the office and it didn’t blow hot air, but neither did it blow cool air. About 10 when things had warmed up a bit, he went out to drive the car to see if the air conditioner was working and it was not. We decided to drive it to the repair shop and hoped it would still not be working by the time we got there. We were lucky—it still didn’t work by the time we got there. Pretty strange to be hoping that our car wouldn’t work, but with the weather as hot and humid as it had been and the promises of all the native Virginians that August was even worse we wanted a depend...
