Sister Nelson - Pie Night and Zone Conference

Dear Family, Another week has raced by and I am trying to recap the events of the week. It has been a good week. I have been able to get a few of the things hanging over my head taken care of and am only a little under water. Monday was the evening for our monthly senior missionary get together. One of the couples had a family tradition to have a pie night just prior to Thanksgiving. They had found out that after a large Thanksgiving meal they were often too full to enjoy dessert. At first they decided to have their pie night the night before Thanksgiving, but they discovered that that was too much to have two days of big eating. Pie night was changed to Monday evening and soup was added to the menu. People were free to eat only soup, only pie, or a combination. They could take a tiny piece of many of the pies or take a big slice of their favorite. I think they told us the most they ever had was 24-27 pies. I was asked to bring soup since they knew I wasn’t into pies, and the...

Sister Nelson - Transfers and Kent's Birthday

Dear Family, Sorry that I am so far behind in my letter writing. Life has been VERY busy the last three weeks and letter writing got shifted off the stove—not just to the back burner. The week started off on Monday with a quick tour of the mission office for the Chases before they left to do their final day of site-seeing in the Washington DC area. Then we were left to see about getting caught up with things and make final preparations for the new missionaries coming in later today. I needed to make sure all of the missionaries had their MSF cards (debit cards) and that I had all of the PIN numbers available to give to them. We only have 13 coming this time so it is easier. Because there were fewer coming in, Dad didn’t have to go to the airport to help pick up. He came with me to help get the food. It was supposed to be ready for pick up by 4:30, but wasn’t ready until nearly 5. It was just our luck that the missionaries were early getting in and they beat us to the mission ho...

Elder Nelson - Easy Transfer Week

Dear Family, Mission News This was transfer week, but it was easier than most. 13 new missionaries came. I did not have to go to the airport, because the APs could take 10 in the mission van and President and Sister Caplin could take 3. We did not have to take them from the mission home to the hotel late at night because there was enough capacity. There were only 5 than went home and President and Sister Caplin took them in two vans. There were no other major problems – not at all usual. I took care of the new SIM cards that were needed with the net gain of 8 missionaries. All in all, it was a fairly smooth week for a transfer week. There will be about 2x the missionaries coming and going in December. We will see if we can make that transfer as smooth. We have been tired all week especially Mom. Mom went to a new doctor on Monday and he prescribed a new anti-inflammatory drug. One possible side effect is “tiredness”. I think Mom was tired. She fell asleep in church – something ...
